SAFETY
ON THE ROOF OR ON THE GROUND, WE’RE ALWAYS ON THE BALL. AVALON HELPED WRITE THE CODES THAT DEFINE INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS STANDARD SAFETY PRACTICES RIGHT NOW. WE TRAIN OUR OPERATIVES TO BE THE BEST BECAUSE WE DON’T BELIEVE IN ANYTHING LESS.
We can’t say we wrote the book on safety, but we certainly helped. Neil McHugh & Steve Tomas were involved in the development of IRATA. Avalon assisted OSH NZ by drafting the Industrial Rope Access section of the "Prevention of falls from a height" document (2000). We were also consulted on the latest AS/NZS Standards for Industrial Rope Access and Fall Arrest systems. We’re not just height access professionals. We’re safety experts, too.
INDUSTRIAL ROPE ACCESS TRAINING
The IRATA system has become the de-facto training standard for industrial rope access and height access safety. It was developed in the UK for use in the hazardous offshore oil industry. Tried and tested, this method has proved effective, with over 20,000 people worldwide having been trained to date.
We’re proud to include Steve Thomas on our staff, one of the initial (1991) group of IRATA Trainer / Assessors.
Avalon also recognises some other industrial rope access training schemes, including IRAANZ.
Safety is our priority.
SAFETY STANDARDS
Naturally, Avalon’s operating procedures are in line with NZ Legislation, AS/NZS Standards and OSH Guidelines.
Our safety record is excellent. We’re committed to keeping it that way.
Here’s how we work:
Effective and experienced Management, Site Supervision and staff training is the key to safety.
We thoroughly identify potential hazards on every job site:
- 1) Prior to the job commencement.
- 2) At a 'tool box talk' on site.
- 3) Are continually assessed throughout contracts. This process is QA controlled and fully documented.
Fall Arrest
Nothing’s more worrying than the thought that you, your staff, or your customers are at risk from a dangerous fall. Avalon are trained fall arrest specialists, able to give you practical advice, and to design and implement secure systems to prevent falls.

Our staff includes Steve Thomas, one of the initial (1991) group of IRATA Trainer/Assessors.
